Description

Vietnam’s tea production began in 1880 when the French established the first tea plantations in Phu Tu province of this country. Vietnam’s tea production industry flourished at a very high speed during 50 years, so that today this country is one of the largest exporters of tea to Africa and Europe. The country’s tea industry faced stagnation during the Vietnam War, but it flourished again in the 1980s, so that the country managed to produce about 116,900 tons of tea in 2013.

About 60% of Vietnamese tea is black tea, 35% is green tea, and the remaining 5% is made up of other teas, including lotus tea and jasmine tea. Another type of Vietnamese tea called “Shan Thuat” is also produced in this country, whose plant grows only in some parts of Vietnam.
